Forward Deployed Engineer
You'll work with the teams building on Gravity Rail, turn their workflows into agents, and teach them to build the next one themselves.
About Gravity Rail
Here's what you'd be part of.
We're building an agentic AI platform for high-compliance environments, meaning organizations that answer to a compliance team, an auditor, or a regulator. Most of our customers are in healthcare. Our agents have helped hundreds of thousands of patients get access to care and have removed tens of thousands of hours of manual back-office work.
That work is personal. It looks like reaching 81,000 families during a coverage transition. It looks like checking in every day with people in managed care who need to measure their vitals, and making sure someone follows up when a number looks off. It's people getting support they would have missed otherwise.
We believe the teams closest to the work should own their agents: what the agent says, who it talks to, when a person takes over, and how fast all of that changes. We run the infrastructure. They build. And when they do, they build things we'd never have put on a roadmap.
We put people at the center, not AI. Our job is to create an army of professionals who use AI to solve problems, not to replace them.
What you'll do
You'll be the main point of contact for the accounts building on Gravity Rail, which means ops teams, care managers, doctors, and nurse practitioners. You'll take their workflows and processes, turn them into automations, and train them to run those automations on their own. The goal is that they don't need us for the second one.
You'll report to Scott Hoch, CEO, and work closely with Daniel Walmsley, CTO, and our small engineering team. We're an early-stage startup, so there's no playbook. You'll help write it.
- Learn how a team actually works, and turn their standard operating procedure into a workflow, with evals that show it's working.
- Build the first version with them: agents, schedules, outreach, phone lines, and integrations.
- Launch it, read the real conversations, and fix what breaks.
- Manage the mindset shift. This isn't fixed software. It's a tool they control.
- Bring what you learn back as templates, docs, and product feedback.
This isn't account management or ticket triage. If you mainly want to manage relationships or hand the building to someone else, this isn't the role. If you want to build it and teach others to, it is.
Who you are
- A builder. You ship it, then improve it. You don't wait for direction.
- Always scaling yourself. You measure your progress by how much more you've automated, templated, or handed off this week than last.
- Fluent in AI tools. You use them to automate your own work. If you've used Grok Bot or Dots and wondered why hospitals and health plans can't have that, we should talk.
- Opinionated about prompts and context. You know what to give a model, what to leave out, and how to tell when an agent only looks like it's working.
- A systems thinker. Triggers, schedules, background jobs, data models, and what happens when a file shows up late or a job runs twice. Our platform is a builder, so you won't need to write code.
- A teacher. You can get a skeptical, busy team to adopt something new and actually own it.
- High-compliance experience. Ideally in healthcare, insurance, or finance. Healthcare helps but isn't required. Curiosity about how care gets delivered is.
Bonus points for coding in any language, EHRs or HL7/FHIR, Twilio or IVR, and managed care or contact-center experience.
You'll need to be available during US East Coast business hours, since most of our customers are on the East Coast.
What you get
- Work with the newest models from every frontier lab, and see the patients who got care and the hours teams got back because of what you built.
- Significant equity. We'd rather hire owners than employees, so the offer is weighted toward equity on purpose.
- Base salary of $85k–$130k, plus performance bonuses tied to customer expansion.
- Health insurance and 401(k).
- Fully remote, with travel under 10%.
- Direct access to the founders and real influence over the product.
How to apply
No cover letter needed. Email careers@gravityrail.com with a walkthrough of something you built and shipped. A short Loom is ideal. Tell us what you built and why. We care as much about how you explain it as about what you made. Use any AI tools you like, just tell us how.
Résumés are optional. A strong walkthrough gets a conversation either way.
