Generating Chat Summaries

This guide shows you how to generate AI-powered summaries for conversations in Gravity Rail. Chat summaries help you quickly understand the content and context of conversations without reading through all messages.

Prerequisites

• Access to a Gravity Rail workspace
• Existing chats with messages

Steps

1. Navigate to Your Workspace

Start by opening Gravity Rail and selecting the workspace where you want to generate chat summaries.

Select your workspace from the home page to open it.

2. Open the Chats Section

From the workspace sidebar, click on Chats to view all conversations.

The Chats page displays:

• Title: The conversation title (or auto-generated summary if already created)
• Messages: Number of messages in the conversation
• Member: The participant in the conversation
• Workflow: The workflow associated with the chat
• Created: When the chat was created
• Latest: When the last message was sent

3. Expand a Chat Row

To generate a summary for a chat, first expand the chat row by clicking the chevron icon (►) at the left of the row.

When expanded, you'll see:

• No summary available message if no summary has been generated yet
• Generate Summary button
• Update labels checkbox (checked by default)

4. Generate the Summary

Click the Generate Summary button to start the summarization process.

The system will:

1. Analyze the conversation messages
2. Generate a concise summary of key points
3. Optionally update chat labels if the "Update labels" checkbox is checked
4. Create a descriptive title based on the conversation content

5. Review the Generated Summary

Once generated, the summary section displays:

• Conversation Summary heading
• Summary text: A concise overview of the conversation
• Generated timestamp: When the summary was created
• Title: The AI-generated title for the conversation
• Regenerate button: Click to generate a new summary
• Update labels checkbox: Controls whether labels are updated when regenerating

Features

Summary Content

The AI-generated summary includes:

• Key points discussed in the conversation
• Main outcomes and decisions
• Relevant context and actions taken
• Label evaluation (which labels apply to this conversation)

Regenerating Summaries

If you want to update an existing summary:

1. Expand the chat row with an existing summary
2. Click the Regenerate button
3. The system will create a new summary based on the current conversation content

Label Updates

When the Update labels checkbox is checked:

• The system evaluates which labels apply to the conversation
• Relevant labels are automatically applied to the chat
• This helps with organizing and filtering conversations

Tips

• Generate summaries for completed or lengthy conversations to save time
• Use the generated titles to quickly identify conversations
• Regenerate summaries after significant conversation updates
• Check the "Update labels" option to keep your chat labels current
