Milestones
Learn how to set time-bound goals, define measurable targets with member filters, and track progress in your workspace.
Milestones
Milestones enable organizations to define time-bound goals and track progress using member filters. Each milestone represents a strategic objective with one or more measurable goals, allowing teams to monitor performance against specific member segments and target dates.
Who Milestones Are For
Organization Owners
- Set strategic organizational objectives with target dates
- Define measurable goals across different member segments
- Track progress towards quarterly and annual targets
- Monitor team performance through goal-based analytics
- Create milestones from templates for repeatable goal structures
Administrators
- Create and manage milestones within their permission scope
- Define goals based on member filters (labels, workflows, roles, etc.)
- Update milestone progress and target dates
- View milestone analytics and progress reports
- Share milestone progress with team members
What Are Milestones?
A milestone is a time-bound strategic objective that contains multiple goals. Each goal targets a specific cohort of members defined by a member filter and optionally a numeric target value.
- Target Date: When the milestone should be achieved (supports timezone-aware dates)
- Goals: Measurable targets tied to member filters
- Member Filters: Define cohorts by labels, workflows, roles, data types, contact info, preferences, or TOS status
- Templates: Reusable structures for repeatable milestones (e.g., quarterly reviews)
Creating a Milestone
To create a milestone:
- Navigate to the Milestones section in your workspace.
- Click to create a new milestone.
- Provide a name (e.g., "New Member Onboarding") and optional description.
- Set the target date for completion.
- Add one or more goals (see below).
- Assign an owner for accountability.
Only workspace administrators can create new milestones.
Adding Goals with Member Filters
Each goal within a milestone is tied to a member filter that defines the target cohort of members.
When adding a goal:
- Give the goal a name and optional description (e.g., "Complete Onboarding Steps").
- Select or create a member filter (supports labels like "New Hire", workflows like "Onboarding", roles, data types, etc.).
- Optionally set a numeric target value (e.g., 50 members).
- Goals can be quantitative (with a value) or qualitative (completion-based).
Example: New Member Onboarding Milestone
- Milestone: "New Member Onboarding - Q1 2026" (target: March 31, 2026)
- Goals:
- "Enrolled in Onboarding Workflow": 100 members (filter: workflow="Onboarding" AND label="New Hire")
- "Completed Profile Setup": 85 members (filter: dataType="Profile Complete" = true)
- "Assigned to First Project": 70 members (filter: workflow="Assignment" AND label="Active")
Once the analytics layer is available, goal counts will be derived from these filters so they stay in sync as members move through workflows.
Interpreting Progress
Current limitation: Progress calculation is not yet implemented. Today, the system stores milestones, goals, member filters, target dates, and owners, but progress counts, percentage completion, and historical trends are not yet available in the UI or API. Once the analytics layer ships, counts will update automatically against the member filters you configure.
Planned capabilities (not yet shipped):
- View current count versus target value for each goal.
- See percentage completion for goals and overall milestone.
- Track against target dates to identify at-risk milestones.
- Analytics showing member cohort sizes and transitions over time.
- Progress snapshots and dashboards for historical trends.
In the meantime, you can define milestones and goals so the data model is in place, and they will automatically begin reporting progress once the analytics release lands.
